Poetry And Power

"Routine"
By Michael Knapp
they flow down the tube
like a snake on all fours
with their s.u.'s
and u.d.'s
they've become such a bore

'listen to the sirens'
the station boys' laughter
hanging from the ceiling
to see what comes after

it's all just routine
(routine)
like pictures on the wall
(on the wall)
make a toast to the silence
(silence)
make believe you have it all
(have it all)

so real, it could be true
so, nothing is what it seems
how will I ever know if 'androids
dream of electric sheep?'

'addicted to the time track'
we have all gone commute
the story has no ending
here we stay deaf and mute

it's all just routine
(routine)
like pictures on the wall
(on the wall)
make a toast to the silence
(silence)
make believe you have it all
(have it all)
