Poetry And Power

"The Choice"
By Michael Knapp
a machine for making thought work
a 'friend' to pass the time
shed the skin called 'society'
the deeper thoughts let go

he found himself a 'proxy joe'
lost feelings he could salvage
between the self and alter ego
he wondered the streets unknown

whatever dreams he could manage
whatever voices he could hear
whatever struggles, he'd overcome,
'the choice to fade or disappear'

'the choice to fade or disappear'

it wasn't final until the end
he knew it wouldn't last forever
a simple jump into the darkness
of what they call the 'inner void'

and so he searched for a conclusion
and found himself where he began
the 'mirrors' reflected back the cycle
although, somehow he'd understand

whatever dreams he could manage
whatever voices he could hear
whatever struggles, he'd overcome,
'the choice to fade or disappear'

'the choice to fade or disappear'
