"Tubeway Boys"
By Michael Knapp

there were sirens and alarms
tubeway boys were calling
but they didn't hear
and they didn't care
they all pretended to know
but they didn't have a clue
they said 'it wasn't my turn'
they said 'it's never fair'

all I can say is 'where are the machmen?'
all I can say
is 'where you end and I begin'
I'm so unsure
of 'love you and love you and'
it's just a chore
like 'waiting for the grey man'

there were thoughts and emotions
the days of 'we are only boys'
but it's all just show
and it's all gone now
the 'friends' that we used to
call on to bring us 'round
to all our fears
it was funny somehow (who's laughing?)

all I can say is 'where are the machmen?'
all I can say
is 'where you end and I begin'
I'm so unsure
of 'love you and love you and'
it's just a chore
like 'waiting for the grey man'
