"Human"
(The Machine's Wish)
By Michael Knapp

I can feel the air in me grow still,
like I was human
This dark facade in me grows faint
If I were human,
I could feel the things like 'I don't want
to be human'
I could think the thoughts of 'I hate
to be human'
I could wish my Mallory heart was real
and I were human
I could want the things I don't need,
if I were human
I could have children and wish they weren't,
if I were human
I could sing 'I am an American',
if I were human
I could rape myself and go for therapy,
if I were human
I could lie and say it's the truth,
if I were human
I could love and hate at the same time,
if I were human
I could judge by appearance only,
if I were human
I could kill and be convinced I didn't,
if I were human
I could 'throw out the baby with the bath water',
if I were human
I could say things that I don't mean,
if I were human
I could end it all, it's my choice,
if I were human
